Brothers is a 2009 American psychological drama war film directed by Jim Sheridan and written by David Benioff. The film is a remake of the 2004 Danish film of the same name.

Synopsis:

Brothers tells the story of Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire), a Marine captain about to embark on his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan. While he is away, his troubled brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is released from prison after serving six years for armed robbery. Tommy moves in with Sam's wife Grace (Natalie Portman) and their two daughters. Initially, Tommy's presence causes tension and conflict within the family. However, as Sam's tour in Afghanistan takes its toll on him, Tommy begins to step up and take on the role of a responsible father and husband. When Sam returns home, he is a changed man. He is traumatized by his experiences in combat and struggles to readjust to civilian life. Grace finds herself torn between her love for Sam and her growing affection for Tommy. Brothers is a powerful and emotional film that explores the psychological toll of war and the complexities of family relationships. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor for Jake Gyllenhaal, and Best Original Score.
